Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders that is affecting women in numbers as high as one out of ten, although many cases remain undiagnosed because symptoms differ from one woman to another. While one woman may experience a range of symptoms, another may have little to none. PCOS is a condition in which the sex hormones in a female’s body are imbalanced, which can cause cysts on the ovaries, weight gain, changes in menstrual cycle, trouble getting pregnant, and other problems. If left untreated, it can lead to heart disease and endometrial cancer. At this time PCOS is not curable but with medication, exercise, and healthy eating, the symptoms can be treated.
My sister and I are both 24 and she just got diagnosed with a blood clot from birth control so she can't take it anymore. I was told by my gyno that I have to take birth control to regulate my hormones related to PCOS. Are there any PCOSers out there that take something other than the pill? Does it help manage symptoms? Does it carry the same risks? Because now I'm scared and I don't know if I want to take it anymore

I am sorry that happened to her, but thankfully it was caught and I hope she is better soon! I have heard some say they were prescribed progesterone only pill, which is considered the mini-Pill. It should not be taken if you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, severe artery diease, live tumours, porphryis, or breast cancer. It doesn’t work exactly like the combination pill, but has been said to help PCOS symptoms. The risks are similar, but from what I have read, some who have had the blood clotting issue were allowed it as a suggestion, but I am not 100% positive.

I am sorry this isn’t very helpful. Followers, can you answer this, personal experience, etc? If so, send a message here or let her know in her ask box! Please and thank you!
