PCOS & Our Bodies

Welome! OurPCOS is a place for females with PCOS to come and meet women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, find healthy recipes and workout routines, learn more information on PCOS, or just receive support! Disclaimer: I am neither a doctor nor nutritionist, but will answer questions to the best of my knowledge and research, however, it is best to consult with your doctor before starting any diet plan, cleanse, and/or supplements. All articles are sourced to the original post. No recipes, information, or articles are mine unless stated otherwise. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders that is affecting women in numbers as high as one out of ten, although many cases remain undiagnosed because symptoms differ from one woman to another. While one woman may experience a range of symptoms, another may have little to none. PCOS is a condition in which the sex hormones in a female’s body are imbalanced, which can cause cysts on the ovaries, weight gain, changes in menstrual cycle, trouble getting pregnant, and other problems. If left untreated, it can lead to heart disease and endometrial cancer. At this time PCOS is not curable but with medication, exercise, and healthy eating, the symptoms can be treated.

I'm going to see my GP on the 9th and I was wondering, is there anything specific I should ask her about being put on Metformin? Like, is there any other medication I should be taking alongside it? Cos I'd read that article about a vitamin deficiency... Not to mention its results/side-effects, diet. Also, can anyone from the UK answer this cos some meds that are allowed elsewhere might be banned here. And can people please post the diets they follow on a weekly basis? Thanks for your help! :)

I cannot think of anything specific besides asking if there is any certain diet you should follow, what you will experience while on Metformin, and when would it be best for you to personally take Metformin (some doctors say different times, depends on the individual). I have also read about the vitamin deficiency and that is another good question to ask your doctor, although some doctors wait until a follow-up to see how you are doing on the medication, but ask anyways!

As for diet, this is my little plan, but everyone’s is different!

Daily Nutrition

  • 1,200 Calories
  • 245 Carbs
  • 59 Fat
  • 67 Protein
  • 8 Cups of Water
  • No eating after 8 in the evening
  • Two snacks daily (My appetite has decreased greatly since losing weight, but if hungry I snack on fruits/veggies, wheat crackers, or cottage cheese)
  • Limit processed foods
  • No red meat or soda

I eat mainly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, chicken, and limit processed foods as much as possible along side limiting or avoiding eat meat completely.

Posting this as a question for others to answer as well, and people can also send in an ask since the limit is so short! I hope this helps!
